Privacy Policy
Last updated June 10, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Makomu, operated by Shortia LLC (“Shortia”, “we”, “us”), collects, uses and protects your personal data when you use our platform, websites and applications (the “Service”). We only collect what we need to run the Service, and we never sell your personal data.
1. Data controller
Shortia LLC is the data controller for personal data processed about platform accounts. For data inside a community, the Creator who runs that community acts as controller for their members' content, and Makomu acts as a processor on their behalf.
You can contact us at any time at contact@shortmake.com.
2. Information we collect
Account data: your name, email address, password (stored hashed), and optional profile details (avatar, bio, locale).
Content data: posts, comments, messages, courses, files and other content you create or upload.
Payment data: when you buy or sell, payment is handled by our providers (Stripe, Mobile Money). We store transaction metadata (amount, status, identifiers) but never your full card number.
Technical data: IP address, device and browser information, and usage logs needed for security and to operate the Service.
3. How we use your data
To create and secure your account, provide the Service, process payments, send essential account emails (verification, receipts, security) and, if you have not opted out, non-essential emails such as product updates.
To prevent fraud and abuse, comply with our legal obligations, and improve the Service.
4. Legal bases
We process your data to perform our contract with you (providing the Service), to comply with legal obligations, based on your consent (e.g. marketing emails, which you can withdraw at any time), and for our legitimate interests in keeping the Service safe and functional.
5. Service providers we share data with
We rely on trusted processors who handle data only on our instructions: Stripe and Mobile Money providers (payments), Resend (transactional and marketing email delivery), Bunny Stream (video hosting), Cloudflare R2 (file and image storage), Ably (real-time messaging), and Google (when you sign in with Google).
We do not sell your personal data and only share it where necessary to operate the Service or where required by law.
6. Email and unsubscribe
Essential account emails (verification, security, receipts) are always sent. Non-essential emails are optional: every such email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can also unsubscribe at makomu.io/unsubscribe.
Once unsubscribed, you stop receiving non-essential emails but keep receiving essential ones.
7. Cookies
We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and to secure the Service. We do not use advertising cookies.
8. Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations (e.g. accounting records).
9. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, contact us at contact@shortmake.com.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
10. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, hashed passwords and encrypted storage of sensitive credentials. No method of transmission is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.
11. International transfers
Your data may be processed in countries other than your own, including by our service providers. Where required, we put appropriate safeguards in place for such transfers.
12. Children
Makomu is not directed to children under 16 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from them.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the date above and, for significant changes, notify you through the Service or by email.
